Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality

Community Development

PDREC works alongside many BME community groups with the aim of empowering the groups to build and enhance their own capacity and to offer practical support around issues such as constitutions, fund raising and management, events and publications. Over the last two decades we have worked with many communities including the local Gypsy and Traveller Community, Devon and Cornwall Chinese Association, Africa House, Betwabu Association, Devon and Cornwal South Asian Society, PIETY, WORTH Women’s Group, Plymouth Kurdish Community Association and The Greek School..

Support and Advocacy

PDREC offers a free and confidential casework/advocacy service to BME individuals and families, in Plymouth, Exeter and Devon, who have experience problems, discrimination or crimes on the grounds of their ethnicity or religion,. These experiences may take the form of verbal abuse, physical assault, being treated differently, being bullied or excluded. Our aim is to provide a safe and respectful environment where people can describe their experiences and be listened to. Read More

Community Events

Through various local events, organised by PDREC and other organisations with a similar value base, we aim to celebrate the richness of the locality’s increasingly diverse and cultural mix. We also aim to support our local BME groups to facilitate their own faith and cultural events. These events are vital in creating a wider awareness of traditions and contributions, and to protect the importance of cultural heritage..
